When your child with autism is experiencing behaviours that are escalating and may put themselves, others, or property at risk, getting timely support is critical. Urgent Response Services supports children and youth with autism and their families by providing immediate, short-term assistance to help stabilize situations and reduce risk.
The program helps children and families address urgent concerns, improve safety, and develop strategies that support long-term success and well-being.
Through individualized service planning, families work with an Urgent Response Service Coordinator to identify needs, develop practical strategies, and connect to appropriate supports. Services may include consultation with caregivers, educators, and intervention teams; direct support to implement behaviour strategies; respite services; and navigation to additional community or Ontario Autism Program resources. By responding quickly and coordinating support around the child and family, the program helps prevent situations from escalating while building the skills and supports needed to move forward safely.
